PRISM

The Center for Modeling, Simulation, and Risk Prediction (PRISM ITB) is a research center at the Bandung Institute of Technology that focuses on the use of mathematical modeling, simulation, and risk analysis to support decision-making in various industry sectors. PRISM ITB serves as a multidisciplinary research hub that integrates the expertise of academics and the practical needs of industry in solving real-world problems, ranging from energy network optimization, financial systems, to health and environmental risk management.

Through research collaboration, PRISM ITB not only produces scientific studies but also develops innovative products in the form of decision support systems, applications, and software designed to provide strategic solutions based on data and applied mathematical science.

Histories

The Center for Research, Development, and Application of Mathematics (P4M ITB) was established in 1993 through ITB Rector Decree No. 10IT/SK/PT.07.H/Q/1993 on the initiative of several senior ITB lecturers. In 2002, following a shift in research direction, P4M became the Center for Mathematical Modeling and Simulation (P2MS ITB) with a focus on the application of mathematics through modeling and simulation.

In its development, P2MS formed several Research Consortia (RC) to expand collaboration with industry and public institutions, among others:

RC-OPPINET (2001) which operates in the oil and gas sector.

RC-FinanMOS (2008) in the field of finance.

RC-MIDIMOS in the field of mathematical epidemiology.

The year 2025 marked a new milestone when one of its main consortiums, PRISM (Center for Modeling, Simulation, and Risk Prediction), was designated as a Center of Excellence for Science and Technology at Higher Education (PUI-PT).

This marked PRISM as an independent research unit with a mandate to strengthen the excellence of ITB’s applied mathematics research at both national and international levels.
