PRISM Showcases Its Internship-Based Research Model at the SOA Asia Actuarial Teaching Conference 2026

PRISM (Predictive Risk Simulation and Modeling) participated in the Society of Actuaries (SOA) Asia Actuarial Teaching Conference 2026, held on 26–27 June 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

During the conference, Dr. Dila Puspita, Chair of PRISM, was invited as a speaker to present “Bridging Academia and Industry through Internship-Based Research: The PRISM ITB Model.”

The presentation introduced PRISM’s internship-based research framework, which connects academic learning, research, and industry practice into a single integrated ecosystem. Instead of viewing internships as short-term industrial exposure, the model transforms real industry challenges into research questions, mathematical models, validation processes, practical implementations, scientific publications, and software solutions.

Drawing upon PRISM’s experience in actuarial science, healthcare, banking, climate risk, and financial optimization, the presentation demonstrated how students can simultaneously develop research competencies, practical problem-solving skills, and professional readiness while contributing to impactful industry projects. The framework also emphasizes structured supervision involving academic advisors, industry experts, research leads, and student researchers working collaboratively toward common research objectives.

The conference provided an excellent platform to exchange ideas with actuarial educators from across Asia on innovative teaching approaches, curriculum development, and stronger university-industry collaboration.

Through its participation, PRISM reaffirms its commitment to advancing actuarial education by developing learning models that prepare students not only for professional examinations but also for addressing complex real-world challenges through research, innovation, and collaboration.
